Oprah can't handle Poo?

Oprah talked about children on her new radio show. Here is a quote from TMZ's review:

"Oprah moved onto her most recent favorite topic, excrement. O assured Gayle that the reason she doesn't have children wasn't that she can't deal with poo,"

Maybe she can't handle it because she has been listening to Dr. Phil's advice on potty training.

Arguing Children And Communication Skills

Arguing children

Many times as a day care teacher I am faced with children arguing over the same toy. They will scream, pull on the toy or sometimes one will bite. When this happens I first try to let the children work out their argument. Usually one child will just give up and walk away. However when neither child will give up I must help them work out the problem.

I usually have both children let go of the toy. Then I have each child tell me in his on words what the problem is. I will then ask the children what do they think should be done. In order to do this, I have one child tell the other one what they want. I will then have the second child respond by using his words. I also make sure each child listens to the other child when he is speaking. I then have him repeat what he heard. This lets me know if he is listening and understanding what is being said.

The conversation usually goes something like this between the children.

"I want that toy."
"I had it first."
"I want to play with it."
"When I’m finished."
"Okay."

This is a little exaggerated, but usually the children will work out the problem and end up playing either with the toy or playing with a different toy.

By having the children use words to settle an argument it helps them to develop communication skills as well as negotiating skills they can use later in life.

The next time your children start to fight have them use their words and also have them listen to each other to solve the problem before things get out of hand and someone gets hurt.

So parents when your child is arguing with you then put on your listening ears and hear what he has to say. Talk softly to him when you respond and you will find that he will listen and calm down. Repeat what he says to you and let him know you understand. You will then be able to calmly discuss the problem with your child and work out a solution.

Using colors to aid in potty training children

Use colors to generate excitement and stimulate learning.

It has long been observed that colors have a direct effect on emotions. Color therapy is the science of using colors to invoke desired emotions and to change emotions that are less desirable.

When using a weekend of training method of potty training like we promote here at the Potty Training Site, you want to use stimulating colors. You want to generate as much excitement about the potty training process as possible. This excitement will be the emotional trigger than makes the training stick and learning progress progress much faster.

The higher the excitement level for both the teacher and the student, the faster and more effective the training process will be.

Potty Training Preparation tip

Remembering the Future Exercise

In Janice's "Potty Train your child in one weekend" course, she talks about the importance of getting yourself prepared for the potty training session. Many parents cause problems and frustrations for themselves by attacking potty training without the proper preparations.

I have recently developed a trick to help me get more intuitive information for any problem I desire to solve. I think this trick will help many parents who are doing as Janice suggests and are mentally preparing themselves for the potty trainer role.

I call it "remembering the future" and here is an example of how to apply it to potty training:

Imagine yourself a year from now telling someone about your potty training experience. Imagine in as much detail as possible as you recall the events of the potty training session to your friend.

Tell her how you were at first skeptical that you could potty train in just one weekend after all the frustration you had experienced. But you decided to buy Janice's course anyway.

Tell her about the steps you took to mentally prepare yourself including this remembering the future exercise. Tell her how your fears evaporated instantly as you imagined your child playing in clean dry clothes and telling you when she need to go potty.

Tell her about the fun you had acting out your role in the potty training process and how your child's imagination was such a key part of the process.

Then tell her how proud you were of your child going to preschool on Monday morning in her big girl panties. And you were not even amazed at how easy it was because the whole weekend unfolded so naturally in a step by step manner toward you desired goal.

Notice any ideas that pop into your head while you remember your imagined experience. If you recall any sticking points, think of how you could have prevented them. Change the story to reach a successful conclusion while having as much fun as possible.

Make sure you can get through the whole story successfully before you begin the actual training. Otherwise the future you imagined just may well come back to bite you.

Enjoy your potty training experience.
